Valeria G. Troubina

Valeria Troubina was born February 14, 1966 in Ukraine/USSR and shortly after moved with her family to the Far East of Russia. Growing up with grandparents on Sakhalin Island (located off of Siberia's Pacific coast North of Japan), she started drawing and painting at a very young age. Upon her family's return from the Far East, Valeria took classes at the Art School of Voroshilovograd, Ukraine. After successful Golden Medal graduation at the age of fourteen she entered Lugansk College of Fine Arts, specializing in Painting and Design. In 1985 - accepted as a student at the Kiev State Academy of Art, majoring in Stage and Costume Design for Theater and Film. Troubina began participating in Art exhibitions in Kiev, Moscow and throughout Eastern Europe in 1988 and became a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine in 1990.

After the graduation from the Academy Valeria was known as an activist among the group of transavantgarde artists called 'Parizhskaya Communa' (Paris Commune), named after the street name of the main art community studio location. The group was considered to be decedent by the mainstream of the Ministry of Culture, group's shows were frequently turned into scandals or even shut down, labeled as 'politically incorrect', etc. Nevertheless, they achieved a well deserved recognition both locally and internationally with exhibitions throughout Eastern and Western Europe.

In 1993, after the brake up of Soviet Union, Troubina was invited to take part in Contemporary Ukrainian Art exhibition 'Angels Over Ukraine' held during the International Edinburgh Art Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, presented by British Council of Visiting Artists, 369 Gallery and International Renaissance Foundation of Ukraine.
