
Valeria G. Troubina
Biography
Valeria Troubina was born February 14, 1966 in Lugansk, Ukraine. Growing up with grandparents on Sakhalin Island (located off of Russia's Pacific coast North of Japan), she started drawing and painting at a very young age. Upon her family's return from the Far East, Valeria took classes at the Lugansk Art School. After successful Golden Medal graduation at the age of fourteen she entered Lugansk College of Fine Arts, specializing in Painting and Design. In 1985 - accepted as a student at the Kiev State Academy of Art, majoring in Stage and Costume Design for Theater and Film. During six academic years she studied Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, Restoration and History of Art. Troubina began participating in Art exhibitions in Kiev, Moscow and throughout Eastern Europe in 1988 and became a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine in 1990.
After the graduation from the Academy Valeria became an activist among the group of young transavantgarde artists called 'Parizhskaya Communa' (Paris Commune, after the street name of the main studio location). The group was considered to be decedent by the mainstream bureaucrats of the Ministry of Culture, group's shows were frequently turned into scandals or even shut down, labeled as 'politically incorrect'.
In 1993, after the brake up of Soviet Union, Troubina was invited to take part in Contemporary Ukrainian Art exhibition 'Angels Over Ukraine' held during the International Edinburgh Art Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, presented by British Council of Visiting Artists, 369 Gallery and International Renaissance Foundation of Ukraine. While in Scotland, Valeria considered to continue collaborating with 369 Gallery on the 'New Ukrainian Painting - After the Apocalypse' exhibition, held in the headquarters of the Economist magazine, London. Upon completing this exciting project she came to the United States, where she exhibits her art now.
